I always like meeting new people and taking informal professional profile head shots for them and hearing their stories about who they are and how they got to be where they’re going.
In this case Ben is a Brighton based ghost writer, author and writing coach specialising in self help and wellness books.
He contacted me and we had a chat about what he’s looking for and said that “One of things I love about the work on your site is that they can be used for formal purposes but they are anything but stuffy/uptight, you capture the warmth and humanity of your subjects.”
I always like to hear how people see my portraits / head shots and work with them to get what they are looking for and i’m pretty pleased with the results from this shoot.
The first five years.....
I don’t really do photography projects…..however I seem to have accidentally been shooting one for five years now.
Once a month, every month for the last five years (that’s 60 shoots), i’ve been photographing Brighton people (326 in total) in various professions / hobbies / businesses for the wonderful Viva Brighton Magazine with the help of the amazing Rebecca Cunningham and Kelly Mechen.
Although it's not quite an A to Z of professions, we’ve shot everything from Adventures to Window cleaners including Butchers, Bakers and Cocktail Makers.
When I started the first The Way We Work shoot in November of 2014 I didn’t think we’d be still shooting five years later, but to be honest, i’m more than happy to continue this project indefinitely as it’s such fun, incredibly interesting and is literally a documentary of The Way We Work.
Like I said, I don’t really do photography projects, but when I do they seem to be big.
Brighton interior photography
Brighton interior design photography
One of the many things I love about photography is that no two shoot are the same and there really is a wide variety of subjects to photograph. Each shoot is a challenge and there is a pleasure in learning something new every time.
I may be known for my professional people photography and portraits, head shots, company profile etc. and my commercial work, but I love taking interior and architectural photography projects on as well.
This was a commission for a Brighton building and design company who wanted me to document some recent work for them.
Brighton Festival Event Photography
It's Brighton Festival time again. That great time of year when the city goes all crazy and there is all kinds of creativity going on.
Last year I was very fortunate to be asked to photograph the opening event / private view of a special Virtual Reality art exhibition / film experience at the Lighthouse in Brighton.
It was my first experience of virtual reality and it was really interesting to see where the technology is going. Not to mention being in a room full of people in Brighton but all of us were transported to the Australian outback.
So if you're doing something for this years Brighton Festival make sure you enjoy it and go and have fun.
Relaxed Brighton Linkedin profile shot and meeting for coffee
I had the great pleasure of meeting life coach Regan the other month for a Linkedin / website profile portrait shoot.
In fact we met in a Brighton coffee shop and chatted for ages and drank coffee and I pulled the camera out and took a few portraits.
I really like this informal relaxed way of photographing as it really didn't feel like a shoot at all. I'm a great believer that to get a great portrait / profile shot you need to be relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera, so I spend a bit of time trying to get to know my subjects, which I think works out better for both of us.
So please do give me a shout if you'd like to meet for a coffee.......erm.... i mean have a portrait / profile / headshot taken.
Mine's a latte.
