How to make the best out of a great situation

December 02, 2014

So you may have seen in the news that a certain iconic rock god made an appearance at a wedding recently. Who? Well exactly.

Roger Daltry the lead singer of The Who happened to be staying at the same hotel as the wedding and was persuaded by a guest to sing a song. I won't go into all the details as you can read them all over the internet.

However, from a photography point of view the interesting story is how the photographer, the super talented and very funny Neil Thomas Douglas managed to make the most out of the opportunity.

I think that every newspaper, TV station, blog from all around the world that contacted Neil about using the images, said that they would like to use them in return for a credit. However Neil earns a living through his photography and managed to turn this into a nice little Christmas bonus for himself by having his commercial head on and being bold and asking for a fee. After all i'm sure the person writing the article is getting paid for that.

How would you like to hear Neil talking about how he dealt with news agencies, picture desks, invoicing people using the images without his permission etc?

Well now you can. I'm very excited to announce that Neil will be taking a special guest slot on my Commercial workshop at Farm Week in February.

So if you'd like to find out more about how you can improve your photography business and would like a place on the commercial photography workshop, have a look at this link.
